Job 42:5
I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you.
If this happened today, the story of Job would likely make headlines in all the newspapers, news broadcasts, and social media. "Man loses all his 10 children, his possessions, his wealth, and falls ill...". We really cannot imagine the immense pain he felt in his heart.
If we look at the entire book of Job, we find a long dialogue between Job and his friends, and at the end, one between Job and God. Job's words are not always calm, especially after being accused by his friends of having committed some wrongdoing that caused his great tragedy. Job did not understand the reason for his suffering. But God did not condemn his anger or his questioning. Unlike us, God speaks and lets us speak.
He does not hold a grudge against our words but helps us to know Him better. In this verse, we see that Job came to know God more closely after going through what he did. God reminded him that His ways are not always understandable. God does not always explain why bad things happen to good people. All you need to remember is that He is the Almighty Creator, the sustainer of everything and everyone. Trust in the Lord!

To pray:
Lord my God, I give you all my afflictions and difficulties. Help me not to try to understand everything that happens to me, but to quiet my heart and trust in you. May the experiences of life, whether good or bad, lead me closer to you. Help me to know you better, not just by hearing, but by walking with you. In Jesus' name, amen.
